Noise and Digital Grindcore act begun in 2003 with Ep entitled "Slay the Beast" on Tin Cans and Twine Records. The ep was both brief and loud, and coincided with the rise of other "digigrind" bands such as Scissor Shock and Hara-Kari Kitty, both of whom GWT would eventually work with.
The band name "German War Tank" is often a lamented choice by it's creator, who had, "in cartoonish impulse, chosen an ironic, flashy name" (Harux interview 2006).
