Michael's formal percussion education began at the age of 9 studying with James Gault (who's own instructor was taught by world renouned master and author Charles Wilcoxon). To supplement his many years of private instruction, he performed with the symphonic band and orchestra during middle and high school. He was a member of the award-winning and nationally respected Hilliard Davidson High School drum line, playing marching snare all four years, participating in many solo, ensemble, indoor/outdoor marching band & drumline competitions.
