Altan Urag is a folk-rock band formed in Mongolia in 2002. The band's music fuses traditional Mongolian folk music and sound with contemporary rock music influences.The name Altan Urag ("Алтан Ураг" in Mongolian) can be loosely translated as "Golden Lineage" or "Golden Kin", referring to Chinggis Khan and his ancestors.
Instruments used in composing and performing the music of Altan Urag include percussion and traditional Mongolian instruments - morin khuur (horse head fiddle), ikh khuur (grand horse head fiddle), bishguur (traditional horn) and yoochin.
